Location: Shenzhen, China
Collaboration: Barclay & Crousse Architecture, TALLER Architecture, Atelier Alternative Architecture
It is not only a piece installed in the landscape, it reveals the landscape by integrating the lake, the mountains and the park into a unity. Urban connections are made possible through the building, from pedestrian access to the lake, and to a smooth connection to phase 2 site, enhancing the experience of visitors and strollers.
The public services, science education spaces, academic and administration areas are in the first levels, so that the museum is a showcase of active research and learning, And reinforces urban intensity.
The more we dig down, the farther we go backwards in time discovering layers of huge events that shaped the earth and life on it. The layering acknowledges life as a cycle of extinctions and rebirths. The different horizontal levels are conceived as superposed layers of geology and life. Verticality reveals time, and slabs between levels reveal ruptures and extinctions. Space and architecture reveal continuity and resilience of life through time.
