TWO NEW PEDESTRIAN PATHWAYS IN CENTRAL SHENZHEN

Location: Shenzhen

Collaboration: MLA+, AAA

Scale: 426000 sqm

Client: Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone Development Co., Ltd.

The proposal includes mainly different installations in order to meet the needs of different urban spaces in the plaza and the streets, and hence to provide an interesting pedestrian experience in the city centre.

The square transformation takes inspiration from natural elements of Chinese gardens, blending traditions into modern public spaces and creating new urban gardens in the city center. The center of the square is equipped with an interactive space device inspired by “water, mountains, clouds and fog”. When the citizens walk in the square, they are like walking through the gardens, and they can appreciate subtle natural changes in the city.

A variety of interactive installations are placed on the streets near the square, extending the functions of the surrounding buildings to the streets, blurring the boundaries between the streets and the venues, providing a comfortable street experience for pedestrians.
