LAYERED VALLEY OF LIFE

LAYERED VALLEY OF LIFE

Wong Chuk Hang has a rich and layered history, but now lacks a sense of place. Our design strives to form a strong sense of Place. Roughly translated ‘Wong Chuk Hang’ means ‘bamboo valley’. We interpret this in key spatial characteristic. We use the existing built forms [stairs, bridges, etc] to form a ‘layered valley’. In the larger vision of this project, we even suggest linking formally to the existing river outflow and ultimately to link to the ‘other side of the valley’ to the south. Further, Bamboo is every present in Hong Kong society, but we celebrate this not as a structural element, but as a cultural element [woven surfaces] and a natural landscape element. Through this we form a place specific design to celebrate the culture, nature, and heritage of the area in a Layered Valley of Life.
