Shenzhen Bay Park is the city’s most important waterfront. It is the interface between a global city and the world seas. It forms a precious ecosystem. And of course it is a perfect destination for weekend leisure time and pleasant evening walks. The sea breeze, the calm views, the colorful nature and the other enjoying people create a mesmerizing atmosphere in which Shenzheners can recharge.
Yet the park has not yet reached its full potential. With a length of nearly 10 kilometers, it has the capacity for many more things to do and things to see, to host many more park visitors, and to incorporate more valuable nature. The park needs a powerful upgrade. The best way to do this is through an open design, an improvement strategy, that allows for further upgrading in the decades to come. It is a strategy to create a more natural bay, to create stronger links to the city and the sea, and to grow over time a diverse collection of piers, promenade pavilions and park programs.
